All the images here have been captured and processed by me either using my own equipment, equipment borrowed from my astronomy friends or, on occassion, remote telescopes I am fortunate to have access to. Mostly, the equipment used is listed in the discription boxes at the side of each image.

2019 Full Lunar Eclipse - UK

This image of jupiter is captured purely in infrared light. The longer wavelengths of infrared light at less disturbed by the atmospher at they travel through and so result in a clearer more detailed image. 

Of course, very short exposures are used, the shorter the better, in order to capture the clearest frames for staking and processing. 

The image is composed of 30 single frames of 1/10000th second and entirely in infrared light using an Astronomik Pro IR filter. The thin over-exposed portion of the Moon is actually the visible part of the Moon. However, as the camera very sensitive, this is much to bright to be images and so the portions visible in the image were, at the time, just beyond the visible. 

The field of view with my SCT telescope is much too small so my friend, Bob, kindly let me use his observatory and telescope to image the Lunar Eclipse. His 12" f4 Newtonian telescope combined with my Nikon D5500 DSLR gave a near frame filling view of the Moon which was perfect.

Fortunately, while the weather was far from perfect, the clouds, rain and fog parted jsut in time and for long enough!
